Hi Tracey - yes of course.
Example:
E. coli divides every 20 minutes. You inoculate a culture with exactly 25 bacterial cells. After 2 hours how many bacteria are present?
So we use the following formula :
i x 2n
i = initial number of bacteria (so there are 25 to start off with)
n = number of divisions (there are x six 20 mins in 2 hours)
That gives:
25 x 2 (6 times)
25 x 2 x 2 x 2 x2 x 2 x2 (6 divisions) = 1600
I think my maths is correct!
