Starting from Cohort 7 (commencing February 2025) all Level 4 potential candidates must be professionally registered with the Science Council
Science Council registration will be a prerequisite as part of the RSPH Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science (APT) North Tees course application process.
This change has been implemented to support candidates in demonstrating they meet professional standards around quality management, leadership and ongoing CPD ahead of commencing the Level 4 course as these elements form part of the wider ethos of the Level 4 qualification that can be linked to the course LO's and career managerial progression.
To confirm, candidates wishing to apply for the 2025 RSPH Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science cohort must include evidence of:
Professional registration with the Science Council: minimum Registered Science Technician (RSciTech)
RSPH Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Science (APT): proof of which must be provided during the application process
Comment form John Pitchers, AAPT Chair:
"This is an important step in embedding professional registration in the APT workforce. Registration with the Science Council recognises APTs’ knowledge and experience in addition any other qualifications they may have. Professional registration captures on-the-job experience and shows the level of competence APTs have as a practising Healthcare Scientist. It also demonstrates commitment to integrity, regard for public interest and responsibility for others. We thank our partners at University Hospital of North Tees for their leadership on this initiative".
This may affect any trainees you currently have going through training or those who have recently qualified. I will provide you all with a brief overview (on your next session with me) of the process and what is required from your candidates during the registration application with the science council.
Kind regards,
Darren
